The Road Runner Band

Pure Rock-n-Roll. They were absolutely fantastic last night at JohnE’s. I am not sure how Ron does it but I could have sworn I heard more then one guitar last night. This is a three member band, Ron on guitar and keyboard, Carol on bass, and George, the little black box on drums.

Unfortunately for us, they leave the valley for the cooler country during the summer. They will be playing at JohnE’s one more time before they leave, on May 14th. They reappear at JohnE’s on Sept 17th.

If you like Rock-n-Roll, with the occasionally waltz and cha-cha thrown in, don’t miss this band. This is a band that I would actually follow around town, they are that good.

Rich Howard at JohnE’s

The Rich Howard Orchestra was great list night at JohnE’s. Unforutnately we got there late and missed the slow polka, slow is my kind of polka. Rich does a nice selection of music and plays fox trots we can actually fox trot to. His WCS was great.

With the new times, we need to rearrange our schedules so we get there earlier, it felt strange having the dance finish at 9:45. It felt kind of “unfinished”, it is going to take some getting used to.

But all-in-all a great evening, what can be nicer then ending an evening dancing with a beautiful partner.

Friday’s Are Back At JohnE’s Cabaret

Last night was the opening night of Friday night dancing at Greenfield Village Resort. Johne Klamm has a great list of bands that will be playing this year. Fridays will be Country and 50’s & 60’s nights. Last night we danced to Reign-N-Country, what a great band. Good, strong vocals and great musicians.

The dance floor at Greenfield is excellent. Last night it was especially nice because there were less dancers then usual, somewhere around 125. So you had plenty of room to shake it.

This year the dance times have changed to 7:00pm to 9:45pm, with one 20 minute break, and at $8 per person it is a great bargain for the quality of bands and the venue.

Why Dance?

A lot of people, especially of the husband variety don’t like to dance. I attribute this to the lack of experience. Most of us have never had any real dancing experience other then gyrating on the dance floor like possessed demons from Tasmania.

Why do you want to dance? Well…

Dancing is more effective, and cheaper, then marriage counseling. Think about it, what are you doing when you dance?

  • You have to touch each other
  • You have to look into each other’s eyes
  • You have to cooperate
  • You need to be patient with one another
  • You have to touch each other
  • You (the male) need to learn to lead
  • You (the female) need to learn to follow
  • You need to learn to block distractions so you can concentrate on your partner
  • You need to trust your partner to be where they need to be when they need to be there
  • You need to learn to connect with each other
  • Did I mention you have to touch?

What does all this mean? YOU HAVE TO LEARN TO COMMUNICATE!

And in the process you get to have fun. When was the last time you asked your spouse, let’s have some fun and go to marriage counseling this weekend? Dancing is a lot more fun!

Dancing Information

The best way for us to know where to dance is to share information. So, if you know of a place to dance, a great band, or a good place for lessons that is not listed here, leave a comment to this post. I will move it to the appropriate category.

Have fun and we’ll see you on the dance floor!
